Thank you for taking the time to fill out this survey for WRD104, which should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. I'll be using some of your responses to plan parts of the course, so your honest responses are much appreciated!
Your name and your major:
What are your professional, creative, or academic aspirations?
What’s your dream career -- or life pursuit -- if you could invent one? Blue sky, if anything were possible ...
Are you currently working? How many hours per week? What do you do?
Where are you from? Where else have you lived?
What’s the last good book you read? Do you regularly read or subscribe to any magazines? Which ones?
Are you involved in any community-based or community–service activities? Or play any sports?
Have you ever read the New York Times?
What do you know about it, or assume about it?
What have you heard about it, if anything?
How would you characterize yourself as a writer? Do you like to write, for example?
What are your strengths as a writer -- and your challenges?
What do you already know about how to do good research? Do you have any tricks or techniques that you like to use?
If I told you that there is a clause in the U.S. Constitution that allows juries to ignore the law -- if that law produces terrible results -- and instead to vote for verdicts based on their consciences, how would you [1] research that to verify that I'm right, and [2] how would you research contemporary issues in "jury nullification"?
Or, if you don't find that one so interesting, how about this one -- here's a quote:
"The films of a nation reflect its mentality in a more direct way than other artistic media."
Did you see "Hunger Games" over Spring Break? Can you imagine how you might use "Hunger Games" to address or respond to that quote? What research could you do to make that a compelling response?
My final question for you has to do with your WRD103 portfolio. If you used Digication to compose your final WRD103 portfolio, please take a minute and share your thoughts on that process: was it productive? Did you notice or learn anything from collecting your work in one place and reflecting on it? Do you have any opinions to share about Digication as a digital writing and presentation space?
